Domaine Vincent Careme

Having grown up in Vouvray in the Loire Valley of France and made his first bottle of wine at the age of 14 under supervision from his grandfather, Vincent has been passionate about wine ever since. He gained hands-on experience in regions all over France, including Sancerre, Champagne and Alsace. However, his passion is still with Chenin blanc, the variety with which he grew up. This naturally leads him to South Africa to gain winemaking exposure in the New World. Apart from that, he also met his wife during his time in South Africa which forms a perfect husband-and-wife team working on projects in his hometown in Loire Valley and South Africa.

He farms his vineyards organically - definitely a challenge in the Loire as mildews and diseases thrive in the wet conditions. Nonetheless, Vincent believes this is the best way to produce quality wine. He makes the full range of styles with Chenin blanc: sparkling, sec, demi-sec and moelleux. Moreover, he is the driving force behind the Vouvray renaissance as a mentor to many young and newly established vignerons in the appellation, including Peter Hahn and Florent Cosme.
