The Land

The Curtets have two vineyards taken over from the local organic wine legend Jacques Maillet. Les Vignes du Seigneur (The vineyard of the Lord) in Serrières-en-Chautagne is planted to Gamay and Pinot Noir, and Le Cellier des Pauvres (The cellar of the poor) in Motz is planted to Altesse, Jacquère, Mondeuse. The two vineyards are on the steepest slopes, requiring hard work for the couple to maintain a tiny 5 hectares. Both are windy sites, and the biggest challenge is to retain humidity in such rocky soils instead of diseases.

Vinification

The Frisson des Cimes is vinified whole-bunch in fibreglass tanks for three weeks before pressing, then aged nine months on lees in concrete hexagonal tanks with horizontal eggs inside. The couple works the cellar in a natural way, encouraging malolactic fermentation and keeping sulphur dioxide doses at a bare minimum only at bottling.

The Wine

A delicate, elegant Alpine wine that is refreshing to drink. Made with 50% Gamay, 40% Mondeuse, and 10% Pinot Noir, the wine is light and low alcohol, without compromising on flavours and intensity. You can almost smell the Alps in the glass with the purity of the fruit and floral aromas, compounded with a meaty, savouriness that makes up a unique nose. In the mouth the lightness is balanced by the delicate aromas and subtle minerality. We always say you can drink three glasses of these without feeling anything, a very enjoyable bottle.
