The Land

The Curtets have two vineyards taken over from the local organic wine legend Jacques Maillet. Les Vignes du Seigneur (The vineyard of the Lord) in Serrières-en-Chautagne and Le Cellier des Pauvres (The cellar of the poor) in Motz is planted to Altesse, Jacquère, Mondeuse. The two vineyards are on the steepest slopes, requiring hard work for the couple to maintain a tiny 5 hectares. Both are windy sites, and the biggest challenge is to retain humidity in such rocky soils instead of diseases.

Vinification

The wines are vinified in fibreglass tanks and concrete hexagonal tanks, with horizontal eggs inside. 10-hectolitre earthenware pots are also used for a part of their white blend. The white blend is matured on lees for eight months without racking. Only a light filtration before bottling. The couple works the cellar in a natural way, encouraging malolactic fermentation and keeping sulphur dioxide doses at a bare minimum only at bottling.

The Wine

A delicate, elegant Alpine wine that is refreshing to drink. Made with 50% Jacquère, 50% Altesse, there is the desirable alpine freshness of the fruit with slight rustic notes. On the palate the lightness comes with soft, mouth-wrapping acidity. Intensely floral, with reductive gunflint at the back of your mouth. We always say you can drink three glasses of these without feeling anything, a very enjoyable bottle.
