The La Croisette has a bright appearance with an intense gold colour in the glass. A lively stream of tiny bubbles provides a delicate ring of mousse: everything to suggest a rich, fresh wine.
The first impression on the nose is mineral in character against a background of flint, accompanied by the bolder and higher notes of humus, pear, marzipan, star anise, jasmine, peppermint, quince jam, lime infusion, bergamot and fresh grapes. Allowing the wine to breathe for a while brings out more peppery notes and liquorice, torrefaction, smokiness and musk accentuated by honey, fig, soft spices and black tobacco.
On the palate, the initial sensation is clean and fresh with a soft, creamy effervescence. The champagne then develops a robust, pulpy fruitiness underlined by a finely stretched lemon acidity. The mid-palate has a flint minerality that lends boldness, salinity, good fruity volume, breadth and chewiness with the smoky, metallic aromas typical of flint. The oak ageing contains and concentrates the vinous power of the champagne and extends the structure and pleasure. The finish is satisfying, full of flavour and truly outstanding. The touch of menthol is a testimony to the environmental nature of the craftsmanship.
La Croisette Vintage 2015 is exceptional champagne with oh so many gastronomic possibilities, a wine in which the luscious Chardonnay, full of sap and vinosity, can be a triumph with a range of inspired and bold dishes.
